Jerome Edward “Jerry” Salloum passed away on Tuesday, July 23, 2024 at Grand River Hospital, Kitchener, at the age of 86 years. Jerry approached life with curiosity and joy, and will be remembered for his warmth, humour, kindness and wisdom. He was a man of deep faith who exemplified the grace of God in his dealings with others. Jerry was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, a loyal friend, a wise mentor and a gifted teacher. Born in Kirkland Lake, Ontario, Jerry moved with his parents and sister to Toronto as a child. He attended Jarvis Collegiate and the University of Toronto. Jerry’s engaging manner and fascination with the natural world helped make him a respected high school geography teacher. During his teaching career, Jerry began lecturing in geography at Wilfred Laurier University where he completed a Masters degree. He was also ordained as an Anglican priest and served as Associate at St. George’s Lowville for nine years. More recently, Jerry integrated science and theology in the writing of his book “Our World: God’s Visible Language”. Jerry will be greatly missed by his beloved wife Nancy, sons Richard and Robert, their wives Alison and Jennifer, grandsons Stephen, Jonathan and Andrew, his extended family and many friends. A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 31, 2024 at Gale Presbyterian Church, 10 Barnswallow Dr., Elmira, with a reception to follow. The service was livestreamed and may be accessed on Jerry’s tribute page of the Dreisinger Funeral Home website. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Jerry’s memory to the Anglican Diocese of the Arctic.
