Roussel, George

On Sunday, October 20, 2024 Dad went home to be with the Lord. He passed at Hospice Wellington in Guelph at the age of 88. Born to Ida and John Roussel on July 28, 1936 at the family home in Bridgeport. He was married to Brenda for 64 years this past September 17. Father to Bradley (Jackie), Denise (Colin), Mark (Susan). Grandfather “Papa” to Shannon (Sean), Megan (Aaron), Jacob (Cassandra), James (Payton), Sean, and Sarah. Great-grandfather to Zephyr, Brock, and Scotia. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Ida Roussel, brothers John Jr., Raymond, Henry, Herbert, Donald, Louis, Edward, Ralph and by sisters, Henrietta, Rose Anne, Alice, Eva and Adrienne. Left to remember him are sisters-in-law, Lovina Roussel and Betty Hintz, along with many loving nieces and nephews. George was a mechanic by trade and also worked as a welder at Dahmer Steel and Four Wheel Drive. He was a volunteer firefighter with Bridgeport Fire Department, a hockey coach, and enjoyed fishing, gardening, carpentry, as well as time spent at LutheRanch. Dad was born and raised in Bridgeport, where he built the family home with his brothers. George and his Sweetie lived there for ten years before moving to Rosendale to live in the country, which was a dream of his. He will always be remembered as a friendly, happy man who loved to talk to people and help anyone out. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 29, 2024 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Dreisinger Funeral Home, 62 Arthur St. S., Elmira. A funeral service will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 30, 2024 at Emmanuel Evangelical Missionary Church, 2 First St. W., Elmira with a brief period of visiting from 9:45 – 10:15 a.m. Reception to follow the service. The service will be livestreamed and can be accessed through George’s tribute page. Cremation will take place with interment in Bridgeport Cemetery at a later date. Our family would like to extend our deepest appreciation to the staff at St. Mary’s, Grand River and Guelph General Hospitals as well as Hospice Wellington. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Emmanuel Missionary Church or Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) would be appreciated and may be made through the Dreisinger Funeral Home, Elmira.
