Waterloo Regional Police will bring their annual Stuff a Cruiser campaign to St. Jacobs Dec. 10 and 11.
The event is a partnership initiative between the Waterloo Regional Police Service and the Knights of Columbus’ New Toys for Needy Kids campaign, now in its 20th year. In that time, a total of $3.25 million worth of toys has been raised and distributed to children throughout Waterloo Region over the holiday season.
This year is the seventh time regional police have taken part in the campaign. To date, members have collected a total of 36,843 toys and $42,309.
“The holiday season is a time for all of us to come together and experience the gift of giving,” says Police Chief Bryan Larkin. “There really is no better gift than that of a child’s smile on Christmas morning. That’s a piece of holiday magic we don’t want to see anyone miss out on.”
During the months of November and December, representatives from the Waterloo Regional Police Service and the Waterloo Regional Police Auxiliary will visit several retail locations throughout the region, welcoming community members to donate a new toy by placing it inside a police cruiser.
Donated toys should be new and unwrapped. Once collected, they will be distributed through community agencies and given to children throughout the region.
Among the cruisers to be parked at various shopping locales around the region, police will be at the Walmart store in St. Jacobs on Dec. 10 and 11 (10 a.m. to 6 p.m.). Donations can also be dropped off at police detachments.
