Waterloo Regional police are still trying to piece together the clues of a devastating crash on Chilligo Road just north of Breslau Wednesday morning that left one man with serious injuries.
Around 10:30 a.m. a 21-year-old Cambridge man driving southbound in a 1989 Camaro crossed the centerline and collided with a tree near the intersection of Rider Road. There were no other passengers in the car, and no witnesses saw the collision that happened on a straight section of the quiet road. The accident wasn’t discovered until about 10:40 by other passing motorists.
One nearby resident at the scene said she heard a big bang that echoed across her farm when the accident occurred.
The man was trapped inside the car but was conscious when help arrived. After being extricated, he was airlifted to a Hamilton hospital with serious head injuries. He was not wearing his seatbelt at the time.
Chilligo Road was closed between Rider Road and Lerch Road for the police investigation until shortly before 3 p.m.
Police thus far have ruled out weather and road conditions, as well as alcohol. They are still looking into other factors in the cause of the crash, such as speed or medical condition, and are asking anyone who witnessed the crash to call them at 519-650-8500, ext. 8856.
