Passed away unexpectedly at his home in Waterloo on Monday, January 27, 2025 at the age of 60 years. Beloved brother of Susan (Keith) Howard of Lacombe, AB, Eric of Kitchener, Paul (Deb) Martin of St. Jacobs, Jean Swartzentruber (Merv Andrews) of Mount Forest, and Linda (Harry) Sahagian of Stouffville. Proud uncle to Anne (Zach) Frantz; Robin (Norbert) Pataki; Dan (Kit) Swartzentruber, Amanda Swartzentruber (Josh Pang); and Matthew Sahagian (Maia Kovacs). Survived by his aunts Patricia Stephens and Nancy White. Will be missed by many great nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and by the Wiegand family. Special friend of Laurie Wiegand. Cherished godfather of Maggie White. Predeceased by his parents Simeon and Carol Martin, niece Michelle Krasovec, nephews Stephen Howard and Austin Martin. Growing up John worked on the farm, and was actively involved with his family, community, and local sports. He was a beloved coach for ringette teams in St. Jacobs with his sister Linda, with the team calling him ‘Chobbles’. He spent years refereeing ringette as well. He also spent years playing soccer with his brother Paul and the Camels. He always looked forward to seeing his family at the yearly reunion - the White Whoopee. John has spent much of his life on the road, driving and operating trucks, and was often seen on his motorcycle, from short afternoon rides to long trips with friends and family. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 31, 2025 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Dreisinger Funeral Home, 62 Arthur St. S., Elmira. A funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 1, 2025 at St. James Ev. Lutheran Church, 1407 King St. N., St. Jacobs. Reception to follow the service. Spring interment in St. James Lutheran Cemetery, St. Jacobs. As expressions of sympathy, donations to Grand River Hospital - Complex Continuing Care - Freeport would be appreciated and may be made through the funeral home.
