Linwood-based Jones Feed Mills will see up to $633,000 in investment from the the federal government through its Economic Action Plan. “We are very grateful to agriculture and agri-food Canada for this funding, which allowed us to expand our customer base by manufacturing and selling a wider variety and a greater volume of supplements,” said Jeff Jones, CEO of Jones Feed Mills, following Monday’s announcement.
“It also created jobs in the local community of Linwood.”
Kitchener-Conestoga MP Harold Albrecht congratulated the company on behalf of Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz, saying “Canada’s Economic Action Plan is putting farmers first by helping them and the entire value-chain acquire new technology to better position them in today’s global marketplace.”
The investment was used to purchase new manufacturing equipment for creating pre-mixed supplements for livestock, which farmers can then buy and mix into their feed.
The mill first opened its doors in 1930 when Earnest Jones bought a small mill on Alfred Street in Linwood and it has grown to include two more sites –Heidelberg and Wroxeter, near Wingham – and the company employs about 100 people. It produces feed products for cattle, swine, horses, poultry among others, including organic and specialty products for shipment all around the world.
The repayable investment was delivered by the Agricultural Flexibility Fund through the AgriProcessing Initiative, a five-year, $50-million initiative designed to enhance the competitiveness of Canada’s food processing sector.
