Passed away at Grand River Hospital on Tuesday, September 3, 2024 at the age of 82 years after a courageous battle with cancer. She is now reunited with her husband of over 62 years, Edward Hackbart (2022). Dear mother to Judy Hackbart, Donna Rogers (David), David Hackbart (Melanie), and James Hackbart. “Grandma” and “Nana” to Melissa Zorn (Rory), Todd Rogers (Courtney), Jennifer Weber (Nate), Stephanie Martin (Tom), Kristyna Whynacht (Alex), and Tyler Hackbart (Rebecca). Great-grandmother to Sullivan, Wren and Mae Martin; Levi, Ayla and Harrison Weber; Matylda and Riley Whynacht, Nora Rogers and Elliott Hackbart. Survived by her sisters-in-law Helen Berg, Gladys Hackbart, Ruby Thompson (Edward), and Margaret Hackbart. Predeceased by her parents Otto and Verna Koenig and infant son Bradley. Janet was born and raised on her parent’s farm outside Linwood and later on Hackbart Road, Wellesley where she continued to farm with Edward, working side by side along with their children. They also operated a livestock trucking business from 1963 to 2005. Edward and Janet moved to Heidelberg in 2005, then to Wellesley. Janet’s heart never left the farm. She was always interested in what was happening at the farm, as their son James continues to operate the family farm. She enjoyed music, dancing, and playing cards. Following Janet’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation or services. The family would like to extend gratitude to the staff at Grand River Hospital and to her hematologist, Dr. McCarron and her team. Special thanks to Pastor Frank Mantz for supporting the family through the years and especially through these times. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Grand River Regional Cancer Centre or St. Mary’s Hospital Cardiac Care would be appreciated by the family and can be made through the Dreisinger Funeral Home, Elmira.
