Nine new officers were welcomed into the Waterloo Regional Police Service rural north division in Elmira on Jan. 10.
With four transferring back to Waterloo, there are now 15 police officers working at what was formerly Division 3A.
The patrol division is now equipped with three additional vehicles, as well. The increased resources come as the division’s territory is being expanded to include Maryhill, Breslau, Maple Grove Road and the Region of Waterloo International Airport.
According to division supervisor Sgt. Sig Peters, all of the new officers volunteered for the rural posts and are happy to be in their new location.
“Only experienced officers come out to the rural division, as they are required to work on their own with little supervision, especially at night,” said Peters.
As part of the expansion, the division has been provided with a Ford Expedition so officers may better respond to calls even in bad weather.
