The Elmira Maple Syrup Festival committee is putting out a call for volunteers to help with setup and running events on festival day.
The festival comes early this year – Mar. 27 – so the committee wants to make sure it has enough volunteers lined up beforehand.
In advance of the big day, the committee is looking for people to put up and take down signs around town, prepare the barn for Old MacDonald’s Farm and set up tables at Lions Hall for the toy show.
On festival day, volunteers are needed to take admission at the toy show and Old MacDonald’s Farm and to direct traffic and collect money for parking. The committee is also looking for people to help with new children’s events.
Festival committee chair Cheryl Peterson stressed that volunteers work two-hour shifts, leaving them lots of time to enjoy the festival themselves.
“It’s a good way for high school students to get their volunteer hours in,” she added.
This is Peterson’s first year as chair, and she’s impressed with how smoothly the preparations are going.
“Everyone on the committee knows their area really well.”
Anyone interested in volunteering can call the festival committee at 519-669-6000 and they’ll be directed to the coordinator for the area in which they want to volunteer. For more information see www.elmiramaplesyrup.com.
