Drayton Entertainment Youth Academy is presenting a summer camp experience for kids and youth in the community. The summer camps are an opportunity to learn about theatre and build performance and technical skills.
Each week of camp, campers will study material from an age-appropriate musical, and learn from guest speakers who are prominent members of the theatre world.
The camps are for youth ages 8 to 18 and will take place the weeks of July 17 to 21, July 24 to 28, July 24 to August 4 and August 14 to 18. Youth will gain training in singing, movement, improv and scene work.
Drayton Entertainment director of education and associate artistic director David Connolly is a senior member of the summer camp training staff.
“The aim of our Youth Academy summer camps is to enable and encourage the emotional, intellectual and social growth of the next generation through the development of creativity and imagination. We’ve designed these weeks to not just build better theatre-makers, but more empathetic, brave and socially aware citizens… all while having a ton of fun,” said Connolly.
Connolly has performed on Broadway and was the director and choreographer of the Drayton Entertainment productions of the Prom, Mamma Mia!, Newsies and others.
Camps will feature in-person master classes with Broadway performers Lee Siegel and Jodi MacFadden. Virtual workshops with Ali Stroker, J Harrison Ghee, Zachary Noah Piser and Vanessa Sears. Other Broadway performers will also be involved.
There will also be one week of a production summer camp for teens who want to learn more about the world behind the scenes, including a virtual workshop with costume designer Gregg Barnes, who has won multiple Tony Awards including this year for costume design on Some Like it Hot.
Summer camps run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Early drop off is available at 8:30 a.m. and late pick-up until 4:30 p.m.
