Dopp, Randy

Peacefully, with his family at his side, on Sunday, October 13, 2024, after a lengthy illness, Randy was welcomed into the arms of the Lord.

Randy was the beloved husband of Mary (Thibodeau) Dopp for over 52 years. He was an amazing father to Phil (Danielle) and Michael (Linda) and a wonderful grandpa to Kieran, Therese, Anna, Francis, Benedict, Mary, Kaylee and Adam.

Predeceased by his parents Vincent and Florence Dopp and a brother to Judy Daub (Mike), Nancy Taylor (Bill), the late Ken Dopp (Lynda) and Marilyn Mueller (John). Randy will also be missed by his ‘outlaws’, the Thibodeau family and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus, council # 5135.

Randy loved the outdoors. Throughout his life, Randy enjoyed yard work and was an avid gardener, boater and fisherman.  But what defined him was that he was an enthusiastic bow hunter. He always looked forward to autumn, when he would spend countless hours in the bush hunting deer and moose, all while enjoying the comradery of his best friends and family. For years he also loved to spend time at his cottage on Lake Nipissing, swimming every morning and fishing every afternoon. That is, until he discovered RVing. Upon his retirement as a Project Manager for the Regional Municipality of Waterloo, Randy and Mary spent over 20 years exploring Canada and the US in their RV. Though there are too many destinations to mention, Alaska, the Dempster Highway and NFLD were among his favourites! A proud snowbird, Randy could hardly wait to spend his winters in Mesa, Arizona. Surrounded by many good friends, Randy thrived on the frequent Happy Hours, Bocce tournaments, desert hiking, card games and the beautiful AZ sun.

Though Randy tried his best to never smile for a picture, he had a great sense of humor and loved nothing more than to torment and tease his kids and grandkids. However, his most outstanding legacy will be that he consistently demonstrated to his sons the finest qualities of being a husband and a father.   He loved his family deeply and always ensured that they were the number 1 priority in his life. Over the last few years, there is no place Randy would rather be than surrounded by and enjoying the company of his family.

Randy and his family would like to thank the entire staff of 5A -ACE at Grand River Hospital for the exceptional care that they provided to Randy during this difficult time. As well, the palliative unit at Freeport Hospital ensured Randy’s comfort and dignity during his last few days.

Randy’s family will receive relatives and friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Friday, November 8, 2024 at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener,
519-749-8467. Funeral Mass will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 9, 2024 at St. Boniface Roman Catholic Church, Maryhill followed by a reception at the Ariss Valley Golf and Country Club, 5700 Wellington Rd 86, Ariss. Interment at Parkview Cemetery, Waterloo at 2:30 p.m.

As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Alzheimer Society of Waterloo Wellington would be appreciated by the family (cards available at the funeral home).

Thanks dad, for the love, unconditional support and guidance that you have provided us over the years. We are better people because of your influence and are so grateful to have had such an exceptional father as a role model.
