Brief winter interlude leaves flooding in its wake
As suddenly as it appeared, the snow that fell Wednesday vanished as temperatures soared overnight, leaving localized flooding in its wake.
There were huge puddles overflowing into the street on Barnswallow and Brookmead drives in Elmira Thursday. A similar scene occurred at Bolender Park.

In Conestogo, water could be seen overflowing onto Misty River Drive.
The wintry storm that rolled through on Wednesday dumped 40 to 80 millimetres of precipitation on Waterloo Region, prompting the Grand River Conservation Authority to send out a flood warning at 8:30 a.m. to upgrade a previous warning for West Montrose to a flood warning zone 2, along with a flood warning for Kitchener and Cambridge.
A zone-2 status refers to a water flow range of 180 to 280 cubic meters per second. According to GRCA, the message will remain in effect until Saturday at 12 p.m.
Through the Grand River watershed, warnings remain in place for a number of locales, including Conestogo, Drayton and New Hamburg.
Conditions prompted Woolwich Township to issue a warning on Thursday morning. “Please exercise caution near local waterways and have your family emergency kit ready.”
