Looking for a fun twist on the typical fundraiser event, Community Care Concepts is throwing a party in celebration of all things Scottish.

And what would a good Scottish themed event be without a little scotch?
On March 24, the Elmira-based senior care charity will host its first annual “Wee Toast” at the Waterloo Inn.
With highland dancers, the “piping in of the haggis” and a five-course meal paired with some of the finest whisky the Scots have to offer, it is sure to be an evening to remember.
“So along with the dinner and the whisky pairings, we’ll have a scotch enthusiast who will lead the group through, explaining about the scotch, its history and what makes each scotch unique,” Community Care Concepts director Cathy Harrington said. “There will also be entertainment and a live auction.”
Items up for grabs include a number of beautiful paintings, and of course, some truly remarkable bottles of scotch.
“This year we decided to go with Scottish whiskies,” Harrington said. “But we are certainly hoping that this will become an ongoing annual event and perhaps in the coming years we can celebrate the whiskies from a number of other countries as well.”
And the money goes to a great cause.
“At Community Care we provide services and supports for seniors and other with special needs to help them live in their homes,” Harrington explained. “So everything from Meals on Wheels, to dining and day programs, and homemaking support services. And what we have seen is the demand for our programs has continued to increase and so these dollars go directly to supporting individuals to participate in those programs.”
If you want in, you better act fast, as some 80 per cent of the tickets have already been sold.
“We have had a very positive response,” Harrington said. “We have sold about 190 tickets already, so we have a very limited number of seats left.”
