Elmira to host the 2019 Ontario Provincial Curling Championships

The Woolwich Memorial Centre will play host to the 2019 Ontario Men’s and Women’s Curling Championships.

Co-hosted by the Elmira Curling Club and Woolwich Township, the competition scheduled for January 27 to February 3, 2019 will see top men’s and women’s teams competing for a provincial title and the right to represent Ontario at the national level.

Following the competition in Elmira, the men’s champion will compete at the Tim Horton’s Brier and the women’s champion moves on to the Scotties Tournament of Hearts.

“The Elmira Curling Club is excited to be hosting the 2019 Ontario Men’s & Women’s Curling Championship,” said Sue Martin, 2019 Ontario Men’s & Women’s Curling Championship host committee chair, in a release announcing the event. “We look forward to welcoming athletes and curling fans from across Ontario who can enjoy all that Woolwich Township has to offer including fantastic local restaurants, unique local shops and our farming communities.”

“The economic impact to the local community will be in excess of $1,400,000” added CurlON executive director Stephen Chenier. “As the marquee championship for curling in Ontario, fans are going to be exposed to some of the best curling.”
