The Woolwich Community Lions Club wants to invite you to celebrate Christmas, but without all the hard work.

Carol Jongerius is one of the organizers of this year’s An Affair To Remember, and she says the party takes the tough stuff out of celebrating the holiday season.

“Everything is done for you. You don’t have to do a thing except show up,” she said. “You can even pre-order your drinks, and have a bottle of wine waiting for you there with your name on it. Of course, it is all local. You get to meet other members of your community and you don’t have to travel far. It takes the worry out of the planning, and let’s us doing the planning for you.”

Not only is An Affair To Remember an easy celebration for the community, it also raises funds for a good cause.

After years of collecting money through many different fundraising events, like the Christmas party, the club has purchased a new accessible van for Elmira District Community Living clients. Now, they are embarking on new projects for the community.

“We don’t want to limit ourselves, but it all goes back into Woolwich,” said Jongerius. “There is always a new project for us to raise money for. We are always busy. It is a great fundraiser. It is very community minded. The money is going back into the community and it is a great chance for people to get together with their friends.”

An Affair To Remember provides a full turkey dinner, with all the fixings, dessert, and like every year, live music and plenty of dancing.

“This year, all our bands are local. We have Fred Hale and Black Water Draw – they are from Heidelberg and they have been around for a long time,” said Jongerius. “The other one used to be known as Lulus Roadhouse Band, and they have been quite popular for a few years now. They are Lulus Band now. On the third night, we have a DJ.”

The party is designed for employers in the area to get their employees out for a holiday party, without all the planning involved. However, Jongerius says anyone can come.

“We invite everyone. We can always use more people. If a group of friends wants to come out, we will gladly have them,” she said.

And what is a holiday party without a visit from the bearded man in red?

“Santa will be there as well, taking pictures with whoever wants one for free,” said Jongerius.

Tickets for An Affair To Remember are $60 per person and can be purchased  by emailing Jongerius at caroljongerius@hotmail.com, or Pat McLean at dp.mclean@sympatico.ca.

The party runs for three nights – Nov. 26, Dec. 2 and 3.
