the Way of the Cross re-enactment

It was a beautiful day on Saturday June 3rd as Grade 12 students from Resurrection Catholic Secondary School performed a re-enactment of the Way of the Cross. This event began at 2 p.m. at the bottom of the hill at the intersection in Maryhill and proceeded up the hill to St. Boniface Church.

Station #1 – Jesus is Condemned to Death took place with Pontius Pilate on the balcony of the Maryhill Inn and Jesus on the sidewalk below.

The remaining stations of the cross took place all the way up the hill. The crucifixion took place on the Church lawn between the church and cemetery. Following the crucifixion everyone was invited into church for singing and ended with the Resurrection on the front lawn of the Rectory.

These young people were all dressed according to the person they were portraying.

There were many families who joined in the pilgrimage and interacted with the students who researched the people involved in Christ’s Passion.

These young people are part of a new Religion through Drama class at Resurrection CSS led by Lisa Hodgkinson and Julia Drake. The students studied the history and theological significance of the people they portrayed in the Via Crucis. The students also hosted two other community events this semester: an Easter Egg Hunt and Evangelization at the former Jakobstettel Inn in St Jacobs and a Passion Play with a social justice reflection on stage at RCSS during Catholic Education Week.
