Fire destroys workshop near Crosshill

Wellesley Township fire officials and the Ontario Fire Marshal continue to investigate the cause of an overnight fire at N.M. Manufacturing on Ayrshire Line near Crosshill.

No one was injured in the blaze that occurred early Thursday morning. Damages are expected to be in the range of $150,000 to $200,000.

Just after 12:30 a.m. fire crews from Linwood and Wellesley responded to the fire, located in a pair of workshops on the property, with St. Clements called in for support shortly thereafter.

AFTERMATH The total damage to a workshop near Crosshill is expected to be between $150,000 and $200,000 following a fire early Thursday morning.

The fire destroyed a small workshop attached to the main manufacturing facility as well as most of its contents, including paint, lumber, a horse-drawn carriage and other equipment. The main manufacturing area only suffered minor smoke and water damage, township fire chief Andrew Lillico said.

A barn attached to one of the buildings was also slightly damaged by the fire and contained two horses, which were removed to safety. The house on the property was not damaged during the incident and the occupants were evacuated safely.

Lillico said that it is still too early to determine the cause of the blaze or where it started, and that it would take another day to sift through the wreckage.
