The semi-finals for the Wellesley Idol contest will be held on Tuesday September 14 at 7:00 p.m. at the Wellesley North-Easthope Fall Fair. There are six contestants vying for three spots in the finals, which will be at 1:00 p.m. on September 25 at the Wellesley Apple Butter and Cheese Festival.

Six contestants will be whittled down to three after the Wellesley North-Easthoop Fall Fair Sept. 14. The final three will compete at the Wellesley Apple Butter & Cheese Festival Sept. 25. The final six contestants are (from left) Emma Bender, Jessi Elgood, Katie Gingerich, Maggie Wang, Gavin Tessier and Andrea Smith.

The six semi-finalists are: Emma Bender, Andrea Smith, Kathie Gingerich, Maggie Wang, Jessi Elgood and Gavin Tessier.

“You get to see all the neat, young talent in the area,” says organizer Wendy Richardson. “And I really like that each winner’s school also gets the same amount of money as the winner to use for their fine art department.”

Each contestant will sing one song at the semi-finals, and two songs at the finals. The judges are Charlene Zehr, Grant Heywood and Gary Goeree.

The winner of this year’s competition will receive $350, second place will receive $250, and third place receives $150.

There is also a fan’s choice award which will be decided after the semi-finals and voted on by the audience. It comes with a $150 prize.

Tryouts for the Wellesley Idol Competition were first held June 27th at the Wellesley Community Centre, with 14 contestants singing for a spot in the semi-finals.
