Whether it’s for a bowl of hot soup or for a complete day of seminars and discussions groups, the Wallenstein Bible Chapel is offering a warm welcome to women from the surrounding townships Feb. 24 during Waterloo Rural Women’s Day.
“It’s a day for rural women to come out, and have a day where they feel special and appreciated,” explained organizer Heidi Wagner, a rural community health worker at the Woolwich Community Health Centre.
The annual event features a presentation by registered nurse Mary Frey Martin on elder-care, an appearance by Sherri Clemmer from Floral Fusion in Floradale who will demonstrate making traditional and contemporary style floral arrangements, and Linda Buckley, an antique dealer and appraiser who will talk about trends and how to properly evaluate antiques.
“Men often have meetings and places where they can commiserate with other men, but women don’t always have that chance, especially in the rural areas,” said Wagner.

The speakers and presenters were carefully selected, said the organizer, in order to suit the needs of rural women, needs which have been expressed to members of staff at the health centre.
“A lot of women have the responsibility of caring for either their parents, or an aunt or uncle, so the session on elder-care might help them be aware of the services that are available to them.”
In addition to the presentations, women can enjoy a hot lunch consisting of turkey pot pie, salad, rolls and carrot cake.
Registration is $15, and begins at 9 a.m. Child care is also provided for an additional $5 per child.
