The Township of Wellesley will invest more than $70,000 to increase the capacity of fuel tanks for its public works, recreation and fire departments.

The existing fuel tanks are more than 30 years old and in need of replacement, director of public works Willis McLaughlin told councillors meeting Tuesday night.

The township began looking into replacing the tanks and pumps a number of years ago following a routine inspection by the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA), but a decision became more pressing given that the township has lost a number of locals gas stations that used to provide fuel for its vehicles, McLaughlin noted.
