Kings net first win at new home arena

The Elmira Sugar Kings christened their new rink with their first win on home ice last Sunday, downing the Kitchener Dutchmen 5-2.

After allowing a pair of goals in the first period, the Kings dominated play through the next two frames, outshooting the Dutchies nearly two to one.

“It’s certainly nice to reestablish the winning tradition on home ice,” said head coach Geoff Haddaway after the game. Read more

West Montrose covered bridge needs designation

A decade of being crafty

Millions of stitches. Thousands of scraps of fabric. And hundreds of hours of work to transform that fabric into complex, colourful quilts.

The Needlesisters Quilt Guild is celebrating its 10th anniversary this weekend, and even its charter members have no idea how many hundreds of quilts the members have created over that decade.

WMC provides new space

The coordinator for the youth centre has been beaming since moving into the Woolwich Memorial Centre Aug. 24. After eight years, the youth centre finally has a space to call its own.

Test results a mixed bag

Results from last year’s Grade 3, 6, and 9 EQAO assessments were mixed for both the Waterloo public and Catholic boards, as well as local schools.

The Education Quality and Accountability Office tests Grade 3 and 6 students on reading, writing and mathematics, and Grade 9 students on mathematics.
